THE IMPORTANCE OF MICROCHIPPING

Did you know that only 5% of dogs in the US are microchipped?

Microchipped? What’s a microchip? A microchip is a tiny transponder the size of a grain of rice that carries a unique identification number. When the microchip is scanned, it transmits the ID number. There’s no battery, no power required, and no moving parts. The microchip is injected under the loose skin between your dog’s shoulder blades.

52% of dogs that have microchips, have no information tied to their microchip.

That means when a dog is found with an unregistered microchip, it’s scanned and there’s no owner information!!

Microchips are a crucial part of reuniting a lost dog with their owner. Collars, harnesses, and tags can break off or be removed. Even if tags stay on, over time they can become hard to read. A microchip will permanently identify your pet if they ever get lost. That being said, all pets should continue to wear a collar and ID tags that include their owner’s contact info.

Pets with microchips are up to 20 times more likely to be reunited with their owners. It’s a simple procedure, it’s not expensive, and the risks are minimal.
